Using Cages Within the Whole Warehousing Picture

More large enterprises use cages for warehouse management, but how to use them and fit them into warehouse workflow is a separate skill. A few points from the angle of overall warehousing. First, consolidation shipping. A consolidation warehouse gathers materials from several plants headed to one destination into one shipment, cutting transport cost. The cage here is the unit-load carrier; uniform-spec cages ease loading, counting, and handover. Second, sortation. A distribution warehouse splits a customer's combined order into single orders for local delivery — large batches over long distance, small batches over short, lowering transport cost and tracking effort. Cages act as turnover containers in this sortation. Third, processing and postponement. The warehouse may do light processing like packing and labeling, deferring the last production step until real demand is known. In such cross-docking, the cage is a moving workbench. Seen inside these whole flows, a cage is no longer just an iron box but a standard unit of the warehousing chain.
